Nikon AI-S Cine Lens Housings - Full Set

UPDATES:

This set of STLs contains an update to the part "Nikon_AI-S_35mm_f1.4_Cine_Housing_MK_I_Inner_Barrel". The thread on this part did not previously match and has now been corrected and replaced with version V1.1.

If this is your first time downloading these files, you don't need to do anything. If you have already downloaded/printed the first release of these files, please ignore that version of this specific part and replace with "Nikon_AI-S_35mm_f1.4_Cine_Housing_MK_I_Inner_Barrel V1.1" included in this package.

I designed these cine housings to optimise the functionality and practicality of working with vintage lenses by incorporating some professional features that are more commonly associated with more expensive cinema glass, such as standardised focus gears and front rings.

The purpose of this project is to make these tools more accessible, which is why I have made them available to download for free under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA License. I am also open to feedback, so please let me know if you have any suggestions or if there are any issues with tolerances etc.

When you download these designs you will receive a series of STL files and a set of detailed instructions for 3D printing and assembly. The housings are relatively straight forward to assemble and are designed to be completely reversible.

Features:

  • 0.8 Pitch focus gears
  • 82mm Filter thread
  • Full frame coverage
  • Hybrid 87.5mm / 95mm front ring
  • Uniform design across all focal lengths
  • Consistent gear placement

Lenses these cine housings are designed to cover:

  • Nikon AI-S 28mm f/2.8
  • Nikon AI-S 35mm f/1.4
  • Nikon AI-S 50mm f/1.4
  • Nikon AI-S 85mm f/2

Some things you will need to complete the assembly of each lens:

Notes/Disclaimers:

  • While these cine housings are intended to be used in a professional set environment, please keep in mind that they are still made from plastic. They get the job done, but they will not have the same durability or life span as CNC machined parts, so please proceed with caution. I cannot be held liable for any damages.
  • The links above above are affiliated, so I make commission if you decide to buy them.
  • The lip of the 87mm front ring is very short, so some matte boxes may not fit. The 95mm front ring is situated behind the lip of the 87mm front ring, so this would only be compatible with a stacked filter system and only the front most filter(s) will fit without hitting the lip of the 87mm front ring. For a more secure fit, I recommend using the 95mm front ring instead of the 87mm. I also advise testing before using and try to choose a light weight matte box to minimise sag/friction.
  • The 28mm housing is the only exception to the uniform design. It is slightly shorter than the other focal lengths to ensure full frame coverage. And due to inconsistencies from different printers, parts, lens assembly etc., some housings may not match as precisely as others.
  • The step up rings I've linked above are the ones I have used to model these designs, but I've tried to design the parts in such a way that they will be compatible with almost any step up rings.
